What’s Included
- Parker Brothers VH Grade 12 Gauge side-by-side shotgun
The VH Grade is Parker Brothers’ V-Grade hammerless side-by-side, built in Meriden, Connecticut, with 28-inch Vulcan Steel barrels. This example uses fluid steel tubes, a solid matted rib, and a doll’s head rib extension, capped with a single front bead. Capacity is two rounds, and the break-action is the proven Parker hammerless design.
Its markings are extensive and correct for the grade. The top rib is roll-marked "PARKER BROS. MAKERS. MERIDEN, CT. U.S.A.
VULCAN STEEL." The watertable shows the Parker Bros trademark with patent dates "PAT’D JAN. 18, AUG. 16, 1887." and "PAT’D OCT. 25, 1910." along with a large V grade stamp. Barrel flats bear the "J.G." inspector stamp in an oval, a "V" in a circle, and the "3 10" pre-strike barrel weight mark.
The serial number is matching on the frame, forend iron, and trigger-guard tang.
Stock and forend details are classic Parker. It has a checkered walnut pistol-grip stock with a Parker grip-cap medallion, an inletted blank shield, and a hard rubber dog’s-head buttplate. Up front is a splinter forend secured by a Deeley latch (PAT’D MAR. 26, 1878). Length of pull is 13.5 inches.
Controls are straightforward and period-correct: double triggers and a manual top-tang safety. The single bead sight and matted rib provide a clean sighting plane over the 28-inch barrels, while the hammerless action exemplifies Parker’s robust design and finish of the V-Grade series.
