Built in St. Paul, Minnesota in the early 1980s, this full-size Model A pairs a 5-inch barrel with a stainless steel frame and slide. It is an early-production example with the hallmark Coonan slide legend and frame rollmark, and a finish that combines brushed flats with a matte top on the slide.
The operating system is single-action, recoil-operated, using a swinging-link Browning-type tilting barrel. It employs a government-length slide with a 1911-type barrel bushing and recoil spring plug, rear cocking serrations, and an external extractor for positive case control.
Sight regulation is handled by an adjustable rear sight (Millett-style) and a plain ramp front sight. Controls include a left-side thumb safety and a standard left-side magazine release. The one-piece backstrap has no grip safety, and capacity is 6+1 in .357 Magnum.
Ergonomics and durability are supported by smooth hardwood grip panels in a walnut tone over the stainless frame. Markings include "COONAN .357 MAGNUM AUTOMATIC" on the slide and "COONAN ARMS INC. ST. P. MN." on the frame.
The pistol comes with three steel single-stack factory magazines and its original factory box with end label.
