The USP .45 uses a short-recoil, modified Browning, linkless locking system with DA/SA operation, a spurred external hammer, and a frame-mounted manual safety. It includes an extended slide stop and a left-side safety lever for confident manipulation. The ambidextrous paddle-style magazine release is fast and intuitive.
Its slide wears HK's Hostile Environment finish with rear serrations only and a beveled nose. The frame is fiber-reinforced polymer with steel inserts, and it houses the HK recoil-reduction system in the recoil spring assembly to help manage .45 ACP recoil.
The barrel is 4.41 in., cold hammer-forged with a polygonal bore. Sights are fixed 3-dot (white), with a white-dot blade front and square-notch rear, and a 6.34 in. sight radius for a clear, consistent sight picture.
Made in Germany, this pistol carries German proof marks near the ejection port and the importer mark "Heckler & Koch, Inc. – Sterling, VA," along with a "Made in Germany" marking. A two-letter German date code is present (letters not legible). The slide is marked "HK USP .45 Auto" and the barrel hood is marked ".45 Auto." The dust cover features the proprietary USP accessory grooves (non-Picatinny). Capacity is 10+1, and three 10-round magazines are included.
