The Model 649-5 Bodyguard is built on S&W’s .357-rated J-Magnum stainless frame with a satin/brushed stainless finish on the frame and receiver. It pairs a stainless steel 2.125 inch barrel with a five-shot fluted stainless cylinder. A short underlug with a front locking lug and a knurled ejector rod tip complete the compact barrel and cylinder assembly.
This revolver uses a double-action/single-action system and the Bodyguard’s integral hammer shroud with a short, checkered spur. The round-butt grip frame is fitted with smooth hardwood boot-style stocks that keep the profile streamlined.
Sighting equipment is fixed and straightforward: a pinned, serrated ramp front sight and a square-notch groove milled into the topstrap for the rear. This setup offers a durable, no-adjustment configuration appropriate for a defensive J-frame revolver.
Factory markings are present and clear. The left barrel is roll-marked "S&W .357 MAGNUM" and the right barrel reads "SMITH & WESSON." The frame carries the S&W trademark crest with "TRADE MARK REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." and "MADE IN U.S.A.
MARCAS REGISTRADAS SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS." The model and dash are marked "649-5" on the yoke cut.
