Product Description

    Smith & Wesson Model 520 NYSP Contract .357 Magnum, 4-inch N-Frame, High-Polish Blue (1980 Limited Production)

The Smith & Wesson Model 520 is the only fixed-sight .357 Magnum ever built on the large N-frame, produced for just one year in 1980. This NYSP Contract configuration features a 4-inch heavy barrel, six-shot capacity, and blued carbon-steel construction. It comes with its original two-piece blue S&W Bangor Punta box with a matching serial-numbered end label, adding clear provenance to a limited-production revolver associated with a cancelled New York State Police contract.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Bore Rifling: Good Rifling - Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: This firearm is in good shape with minor, superficial scratches and blemishes present.

    What’s Included

    • Smith & Wesson two-piece blue Bangor Punta factory box with matching serial-numbered end label

Built for a New York State Police contract that was later cancelled, the Model 520 NYSP Contract run totaled approximately 3,000 revolvers in 1980. This example falls within the documented N557750–N560860 serial block for the production run and is correctly marked "MOD-520" in the yoke cut.

Configuration is classic duty-ready N-frame: a 4-inch heavy-profile carbon-steel barrel with a short underlug, fixed iron sights, and a square-butt frame. The front sight is a pinned ramp with a serrated blade, paired to a fixed rear notch integral to the topstrap for a rugged, zero-maintenance sight picture.

Finish and appointments are period-correct. The gun wears a high-polish blued finish over carbon-steel construction, with a case-hardened, smooth trigger and an exposed, case-hardened hammer with a checkered spur. Stocks are checkered walnut Magna service stocks with S&W medallions and an exposed backstrap.

Factory markings are present and consistent with the model: S&W trademark logo on the right side of the frame; "MADE IN U.S.A. MARCAS REGISTRADAS SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS."; barrel rollmarks "SMITH & WESSON" (left) and "S.&W. 357 MAGNUM" (right); yoke/crane assembly stamps X72X8 and E6; and model designation "MOD-520" in the yoke cut. The original Bangor Punta box with matching end label supports the revolver’s provenance within this one-year, limited-production run.
