The Platypus 17 Commander is a 1911-platform pistol engineered to run Glock 17 magazines, combining familiar 1911 ergonomics with high-capacity double-stack feeding. It is chambered in 9mm Luger with a 17+1 capacity and uses a single-action, short-recoil, semi-automatic operating system.
This model features a 4.25-inch Commander-length barrel and slide with front and rear cocking serrations for confident manipulation. The slide includes a lightening/inspection window ahead of the ejection port and a removable rear sight plate. Sights are fiber-optic front and rear, both with green elements for a bright, easy-to-acquire sight picture.
The aluminum alloy frame keeps weight down and incorporates an integral accessory rail on the dustcover. Grip control comes from aggressive dimple-texture panels and a textured frontstrap, complemented by a square undercut trigger guard and a flared magazine well with a raised SA logo.
Controls include a beavertail grip safety and a left-side thumb safety. The flat trigger is anodized red, providing a distinct look and a consistent, straight-back press. Markings include "1911 COM PLATYPUS 17" on the dustcover and "9MM" on the barrel. This pistol is CNC-machined from billet and manufactured in the USA (Celina, Ohio).
