Springfield Armory XD-40 Sub-Compact .40 S&W — 3 inch Melonite Barrel, Black Slide, Ambi Mag Release, 5 Mags, XD Gear Case
This is the original XD series Sub-Compact in .40 S&W with a 3 inch hammer-forged, Melonite-treated barrel and a forged carbon steel slide finished in black Melonite. Built by HS Produkt in Croatia and imported by Springfield Armory, it features the classic XD frame without Mod.2 branding. It comes with five factory magazines and the full Springfield XD Gear case set.
Condition
Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.
Bore Rifling: Good Rifling - Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.
Specific Condition Notes: There are light signs of wear and handling. There are some surface scratches.

The XD-40 Sub-Compact uses a striker-fired, short-recoil system and includes a dual captive recoil spring with a full-length guide rod to manage .40 S&W recoil in a small footprint. The ambidextrous magazine release is easy to access from either side, and the dustcover accessory rail adds attachment flexibility.
Safety is comprehensive with a grip safety, trigger safety, and both loaded-chamber and striker-status indicators. The slide has front and rear serrations and a black Melonite finish for durability. Dovetailed steel 3-dot sights provide a clean, serviceable sight picture.
The 3 inch, hammer-forged barrel is Melonite treated for wear and corrosion resistance. The polymer frame is finished in black with textured front and back straps for a secure hold. Capacity is 12+1 with the extended magazines.
Manufactured by HS Produkt in Croatia and marked "SPRINGFIELD INC. GENESEO, IL — MADE IN CROATIA" with the Croatian crest, this example retains the original XD frame profile (no Mod.2 Grip Zone). The serial appears on the slide, barrel, and frame, consistent with standard XD production.
