The IJ-70-18A configuration adds a tall adjustable rear sight to the proven Makarov layout, providing user-adjustable elevation and windage at the rear while retaining a fixed front blade. This makes zeroing straightforward without altering the original front sight profile.
Its straight-blowback action and fixed barrel contribute to consistent mechanical alignment. The steel slide features vertical rear serrations and a serrated, anti-glare ribbed top for confident manipulation and sight focus.
Controls are classic Makarov pattern: DA/SA trigger with a slide-mounted safety/decocker and a ring-spurred hammer. Ejection is to the right, and a heel lanyard loop is integrated at the base of the grip for retention options.
Construction is full steel with a uniform blued finish on both slide and frame. Black checkered polymer grips with star medallions complete the traditional appearance while offering a secure hold on this compact-format pistol.
Markings include BAIKAL IJ-70, IJ-70 Cal. 9mm Makarov, Made in Russia, and a KBI, INC HBG, PA import stamp, along with Izhevsk factory/inspection symbols and an АГР 0567 marking. These factory and import identifiers align with its commercial/export provenance.
