The PLR-16 uses a gas-operated piston/operating-rod system with a rotating bolt derived from the M16. It accepts AR-15/STANAG pattern magazines and includes a last-round bolt hold-open, providing familiar handling with a compact footprint.
Its 9.2 in threaded steel barrel (1/2x28) is paired with an aftermarket multi-port muzzle brake that is already installed. A fixed blade front sight sits at the gas block, and a polymer vented handguard surrounds the forend.
The receiver and frame are constructed from glass-fiber-reinforced polymer (Zytel) with a black finish in a clamshell configuration. Controls include a right-side, reciprocating, knurled charging handle and a cross-bolt safety.
Measuring 18.5 in overall and weighing approximately 3.4 lb unloaded, this pistol incorporates an integrated MIL-STD-1913 top rail and a lower accessory rail for mounting compatible accessories. Factory markings include "PLR-16 5.56mm," "KEL-TEC CNC INC COCOA FL," and "MADE IN USA."
