The Model 30AS uses Marlin’s Micro-Groove rifling, noted here by the barrel marking 'MICRO-GROOVE BARREL CAL. 30/30 WIN.' This configuration pairs a 20-inch barrel with a tubular magazine for a 6+1 capacity in .30-30 Winchester, offering a classic lever-gun format with a full-size 13.25-inch length of pull.
The receiver is a solid-top, side-eject design with a right-side loading gate and is drilled and tapped. A one-piece Weaver-style scope base is currently installed. Controls include a cross-bolt safety and an exposed hammer, complemented by a hammer spur extension for easier manipulation.
Iron sights include a ramped front sight with a brass bead (hood not present) and an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. This sight setup delivers a traditional and practical sight picture for the platform.
Furniture is uncheckered hardwood with a straight comb and a pistol-grip profile, paired with a hardwood fore-end secured by a forend cap (no barrel bands). A black plastic buttplate with the molded Marlin logo completes the stock set. The steel receiver and barrel wear a blued finish, and detachable sling swivels with a leather sling are installed.
This carbine is JM stamped and was manufactured in 1994 at Marlin’s North Haven, Connecticut facility. It retains hallmark Model 30AS features such as the blued steel receiver, Micro-Groove barrel, and side-eject, making it a straightforward, well-equipped example from the period.
