This Third Model (smokeless) Fourth Variation represents H&R's hammerless DAO variant with the convenience of a top-break action and automatic star ejector. It is a compact, five-shot revolver in .38 S&W with a practical 3.25 inch barrel length.
The revolver retains a blued finish over steel construction, paired with checkered black hard rubber grips. A step-down grip frame and a checkered latch button on the topstrap are characteristic features of this variation.
Sighting consists of a half-moon front blade and a rear notch that is integral to the top latch. The configuration provides a clean, fixed-sight picture aligned with the barrel rib.
Factory barrel rib markings read "HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO. WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, U.S.A." with the caliber marked ".38 S.&W. CTGE." Matching assembly numbers are present on the butt and cylinder, consistent with period production from 1916 to 1924 in the United States.
