Built on Colt's AR-15 platform, this Government Model aligns with the R6550 pattern and carries the GS serial prefix associated with the line. It is a pre-ban commercial production rifle from the 1988–1990 era, offering the configuration and markings sought by Colt enthusiasts and A2-pattern collectors.
The 20-inch government-profile barrel uses a rifle-length gas system and a pinned A-frame front sight base. It is chrome-lined with a 1:7 twist for 5.56 NATO, and the "C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7" stamp denotes Colt manufacture and magnetic-particle inspection. The muzzle is threaded and currently fitted with an aftermarket multi-prong flash hider.
Furniture and controls are true to the A2 configuration, including the fixed stock with trapdoor buttplate, A2 pistol grip, and rifle-length ribbed polymer handguards. Sights are the standard A2 setup with an adjustable rear in the carry handle and a fixed A-frame front post. The hard-coat anodized aluminum receiver and components reflect the classic A2 aesthetic and function, and the length of pull measures 13.5 inches.
Useful enhancements have been installed while preserving the rifle's core A2 character. A carry-handle scope rail with a numbered/NSN-style inscription provides a mounting surface for glass if desired. An add-on cheek riser is mounted to the A2 stock for a higher comb. A detachable spring-leg bipod is installed for supported shooting.
This semi-automatic, direct-impingement rifle feeds from detachable STANAG-pattern magazines. It includes one 30-round and one 20-round magazine (only one 30-round magazine is included; any additional 30-round magazine shown in photos is not included), and is rated for a 30+1 capacity with standard 30-round mags. The result is a complete, period-correct A2 configuration complemented by practical add-ons.
