The M&P 22 Magnum uses S&W's TEMPO gas-operated locked-breech system with an internal hammer, designed specifically around .22 WMR. The flat-faced trigger and bilateral manual thumb safety provide a familiar M&P control layout, while the ambidextrous slide stop supports both right- and left-handed operation.
Both the barrel and slide are stainless steel with an Armornite finish for corrosion resistance. Barrel length is 4.35 in by factory specification; the case label notes 4.5 in, and the slide is marked to indicate the pistol can fire with the magazine removed, confirming no magazine disconnect.
The slide is optics-ready with an RMSc-footprint direct-mount interface and arrives with the cover plate installed. Sights consist of a green fiber-optic front paired with a black rear notch for a crisp sight picture in varied lighting.
The polymer frame includes an integral 4-slot Picatinny-style accessory rail on the dustcover for lights or lasers. The grip uses the M&P-style texture with S&W medallion. This pistol ships with two 30-round magazines to take full advantage of the 30+1 capacity.
