This M&P 340 is a Centennial-style, double-action-only revolver with an internal hammer and a five-shot, fluted cylinder. It is chambered in .357 Magnum and is factory-rated for continuous use with .38 Special +P. The compact 1.875 in barrel keeps the overall length to approximately 6.31 in with a width of about 1.30 in and a height of about 4.30 in.
The frame is scandium alloy in a matte black finish, while the barrel and cylinder are stainless steel finished in black. This construction keeps weight to about 13.3 oz without sacrificing durability. The ejector rod features a knurled tip, and the cylinder carries a black finish to match the frame.
Sighting is straightforward with a Trijicon-marked tritium night sight up front and an integral rear gutter U-notch on the topstrap. The integral rear channel keeps the profile clean and simple.
Additional details include an internal lock with the keyhole on the right side of the frame, M&P markings on the frame, and a right sideplate medallion marked "MILITARY & POLICE." The crane/yoke is factory-stamped "MP 340." The revolver is made in the United States and ships with installed black synthetic Crimson Trace boot-style grips.
