The factory MKII safety/decocker retrofit is a key feature on this pistol. The lever is stamped "MKII," and the slide retains the original P85 marking, combining early-production identity with the improved safety system Ruger implemented after initial release.
The build features a matte-finished, investment-cast 4130 steel slide, a stainless steel barrel, and an aluminum alloy frame. This full-size configuration pairs a 4.5 in barrel with a 15+1 standard capacity for a classic P-Series setup.
It operates on a short-recoil, locked-breech, DA/SA system with an external spurred hammer. Controls include an ambidextrous slide-mounted safety/decocker with a firing pin block and an ambidextrous magazine release positioned behind the trigger guard.
Sights are fixed 3-dot, with a rear that is drift-adjustable for windage. The grip uses a black one-piece synthetic panel with horizontal ribs and Ruger eagle medallions, and a lanyard loop is fitted at the heel.
Made in the USA in 1989, this P85 represents the first generation of the Ruger P-Series with the noteworthy MKII safety retrofit.
