The original M&P9 Shield design delivers a slim, micro-size profile with a 3.1-inch barrel and single-stack magazines. This pre-M2.0 variant includes the factory manual thumb safety and the top-mounted pivoting loaded-chamber indicator marked "LOADED WHEN UP."
Construction is centered on a polymer frame with an embedded steel chassis, paired with a stainless steel slide and barrel finished in a black Melonite/Armornite nitride treatment. The slide has rear-only, scalloped serrations and no front serrations, and the frame is built without an accessory rail.
Sights are low-profile steel 3-dot units, dovetailed front and rear for durability and serviceability. The striker-fired action uses a hinged trigger with an integrated safety, complementing the manual thumb safety and the loaded-chamber indicator for clear, at-a-glance status.
