The M1911 A1 - FS follows the Government-pattern format with a 5-inch barrel and a standard 1911 bushing/plug recoil system. It uses a flat mainspring housing and standard controls, keeping operation familiar to 1911 users. The action is single-action and hammer-fired in the classic 1911 style.
Ergonomics are anchored by a left-side thumb safety and a beavertail grip safety with a memory pad. The pistol uses a solid, curved trigger and a standard magazine release. Checkered synthetic grip panels with Rock Island Armory medallions provide traction, and a rubber finger-groove grip sleeve is installed on the front strap.
The slide wears a matte black finish with rear-only vertical serrations and no front serrations. Sighting is GI-style and fixed, pairing a narrow blade front with a simple notch rear for a straightforward sight picture.
