This Japanese-made Weatherby Vanguard VGS in .30-06 pairs a 24-inch sporter-contour barrel with a classic walnut Monte Carlo stock. It features a blued steel finish, a right-hand cheekpiece with cut checkering, and an internal 5+1 hinged-floorplate magazine. The receiver is drilled and tapped with two-piece scope bases installed, and the VS-prefix on the serial denotes VGS production from 1984–1994.

The VGS-series Vanguard is identifiable by its VS-prefix serial range and period of manufacture from 1984 to 1994. This example was made in Japan and carries "MADE IN JAPAN" and "SOUTH GATE, CALIFORNIA" markings. The barrel is roll-marked "USE ONLY .30-06" and "PAT. PEND." and measures 24 inches with a sporter contour.
The bolt-action system uses a polished bolt body with a shrouded bolt sleeve, a recessed bolt face with gas ports, and an M16-style extractor. Feeding is from an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate, with a stated capacity of 5+1.
The stock is walnut with a Monte Carlo profile and a right-hand cheekpiece, offering classic Weatherby ergonomics. Cut checkering provides a secure grip, and a Weatherby basket-weave recoil pad is fitted at the butt. Factory sling swivel studs are present, and a black nylon sling with detachable swivels is already installed.
Metalwork is finished in a traditional blued color on both the barrel and steel receiver. The receiver is drilled and tapped, and two-piece scope bases are already mounted. There are no open sights on this rifle.
