The SLW variant emphasizes a lightweight build without sacrificing durability. Its 16.5 in barrel is cold hammer forged from chrome-moly-vanadium steel with a lightweight profile and a 1:7 twist. The barrel device is pinned and welded, and the assembly runs a direct impingement operating system chambered in 5.56mm NATO. The rifle is made in the USA.
The receivers are 7075-T6 aluminum with a uniform FDE finish. Daniel Defense furniture includes a collapsible stock with soft-touch overmold panels and a Daniel Defense pistol grip with soft-touch overmold. Length of pull is 13.5 in. Capacity is configured/limited to 10+1, and no iron sights are installed.
The 13.5 in MFR free-float handguard is 6061-T6 aluminum with M-LOK slots and integrated QD sockets. It carries an uninterrupted, T-marked Picatinny top rail that continues from the upper receiver through the handguard. A left-side M-LOK QD sling socket and a short 3-slot M-LOK Picatinny rail section are installed for accessory placement.
The upper includes a forward assist, brass deflector, and ejection-port cover, with an upper forging code marked "A." Markings include lower receiver text "DANIEL DEFENSE - BLACK CREEK, GA U.S.A. - MODEL DDM4 - CAL: MULTI," an upper caliber marking of "5.56," and handguard marking "MFR 13.5 M" with Daniel Defense and patent line. Upgrades include an ambidextrous charging handle and an extended right-side bolt-release lever.
