The 649-3 Bodyguard configuration pairs double-action/single-action operation with a shrouded hammer and exposed, checkered spur. This lets the user run the revolver in DA mode while still allowing single-action cocking when desired. The J-Magnum frame reinforces the classic J-frame format for .357 Magnum chambering.
Stainless construction extends from the frame to the cylinder and barrel, finished in a satin/matte stainless that balances durability with a clean, workmanlike look. The 2.125 inch barrel uses a full underlug and ejector-rod shroud, complemented by a knurled ejector-rod tip for positive operation.
Sight regulation is straightforward and robust: a pinned, serrated ramp front sight mates to a fixed rear gutter notch on the topstrap. The cylinder is five-fluted and operated by a teardrop-style cylinder latch.
