The SW1911TA is a government-length 1911 with a 5-inch barrel, approximately 8.7-inch overall length, and an unloaded weight around 41.7 ounces. Both frame and slide are stainless steel treated with a black Melonite finish for durability and a uniform, low-glare appearance. The pistol is marked "S&W HOULTON, ME U.S.A." and manufactured in the USA.
E-Series features include distinctive fish-scale front and rear cocking serrations and a lowered ejection port. The checkered front strap and flat mainspring housing provide consistent grip purchase, complemented by checkered laminate wood grips with the E-Series inlaid diamond.
The pistol is equipped with an integral 3-slot accessory rail on the dust cover for mounting a light or other compatible accessory. Controls include an ambidextrous thumb safety, a beavertail grip safety with memory bump, and a skeletonized commander-style hammer for positive, familiar 1911 handling.
Sighting is via fixed 3-dot tritium night sights, with a dovetailed single-dot front and a dovetailed two-dot rear secured by a setscrew. The trigger is a skeletonized, lightened 3-hole design, set up for the single-action, recoil-operated 1911 platform. Capacity is 8+1, and the barrel hood is marked ".45 AUTO" with SW1911TA model markings on the slide and frame.
