Derived from FN's XM17 MHS submission, the 509 Tactical was released in 2018 and validated by a one-million-round development program. This example is U.S.-made at FN America in Columbia, South Carolina.
The 4.5-inch barrel is stainless steel, cold hammer-forged, and threaded 1/2x28 with an extended length and recessed target crown. A Parker Mountain Machine Duty Compensator is installed, leveraging the factory threaded barrel.
The slide features front and rear cocking serrations, an external extractor, and an optics cut with a cover plate. Suppressor-height iron sights include a tall front post and a square-notch rear with protective ears, with additional protective sight wings on the slide.
The polymer frame in black uses aggressive multi-directional texturing and interchangeable backstraps; a spare backstrap is included. An ambidextrous magazine release and a 4-slot MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail support versatile setup and handling.
This full-size 9mm ships with both a 24-round and a 17-round magazine for flexible capacity. The striker-fired system uses a trigger safety, and the package includes FN's Low-Profile Optics Mounting System plates and hardware for mounting a compatible optic.
