The MCX-SPEAR platform pairs a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston system with a 16" threaded barrel (5/8x24) and a 1:10 twist. A two-position adjustable gas valve supports suppressed and unsuppressed settings for straightforward tuning with different configurations.
Controls are fully ambidextrous, including the safety selector, bolt catch/release, and magazine release. The rifle uses a dual charging architecture with a non-reciprocating side charging handle integrated into the upper receiver and a traditional rear charging handle for flexible manipulation.
The free-floating aluminum M-LOK handguard provides ample attachment space and a continuous top Picatinny rail. Enhancements on this rifle include a SureFire SFMB-762-5/8-24 muzzle brake and a BCM M-LOK vertical foregrip, both installed. The barrel is threaded to the common 5/8x24 standard.
Compatibility with SR-25/LR-308 pattern magazines is paired with a 20+1 capacity, and this rifle ships with four 20-round Magpul PMAG LR/SR GEN M3 magazines. The coyote brown anodized finish, folding/telescoping Magpul carbine stock, polymer pistol grip, and 2-stage match trigger round out a modern feature set made in the USA (mfg part number RSPEAR-762-16B). Receiver markings include SIG SAUER INC, NEWINGTON NH USA and SIGMCX-SPEAR with MULTI-CALIBER. The MCX-SPEAR is the direct commercial analogue of the Army’s NGSW XM7/M7 lineage.
