The TEMPO system is the centerpiece of this model. It uses a two-piece, gas-assisted rotary-locking barrel that remains locked until the bullet passes a gas port. This design supports reliable cycling of the 5.7x28mm cartridge while maintaining accuracy and control.
The 5 in stainless steel barrel is extended and threaded 1/2x28, capped with a knurled thread protector. A 1:9 twist rate complements the 5.7x28mm chambering. Both the barrel and slide receive S&W’s Armornite nitride treatment for durability.
The optics-ready stainless steel slide features an RMSc-footprint cut, elongated top lightening windows, and front and rear serrations for confident manipulation. Controls include an ambidextrous slide stop and a left-side magazine release. This submodel deletes the external thumb safety, and the frame is marked "CAUTION - CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED."
The full-size Flat Dark Earth polymer frame provides molded texturing with S&W medallions and a dustcover rail with four Picatinny slots for compatible accessories. Sighted with a 3-dot iron set, it wears a white-dot front post and a drift-adjustable, serrated rear with two white dots. Capacity is 22+1, and two 22-round magazines are included. This USA-made model (SKU 14004) was introduced in 2023, with an MSRP of $729.
