The O1991 Government Model is built on a steel frame and slide with a blued finish, combining polished flats with matte rounds and top for a purposeful, glare-reducing presentation. It is a full-size platform with a 5-inch barrel, standard barrel bushing, and a GI-style recoil spring plug.
This Series 80 pistol uses a single-action only, short-recoil, locked-breech system. Safety features include a single-side manual thumb safety, a grip safety, and the Series 80 firing pin block. It also wears a flat, serrated mainspring housing and a spur hammer, with a checkered and serrated magazine release for positive control. Capacity is 7+1 rounds of .45 ACP.
Sighting is via fixed, dovetailed 3-dot units with a white 1-dot front and a white 2-dot rear. The pistol is fitted with double-diamond checkered hardwood grip panels that provide a secure, traditional hold.
Factory markings include a barrel hood stamped "COLT 45 AUTO," a left-side slide legend "COLT'S GOVERNMENT MODEL .45 AUTOMATIC CALIBER" with the prancing pony, and "SERIES 80" on the right side.
