Produced in 1970 to honor Maine’s 150th anniversary of statehood, this Colt Single Action Frontier Scout commemorative was made in a limited run of approximately 3,000 units. Serial numbers in this issue carry an MES suffix unique to the Maine Sesquicentennial series.
The revolver is built on an alloy frame with a gold-tone plated treatment on the flats and topstrap, paired with a bright nickel-tone grip frame and a matching bright nickel-tone fluted cylinder. It is a single-action-only design chambered in .22 LR with a 4.75-inch barrel and a 6-shot capacity, using a side loading gate.
Sights are fixed, with a quarter-round front blade and a square-notch rear cut into the topstrap. The two-piece smooth faux mother-of-pearl grips feature inlaid gold Colt medallions that complement the plated finishes.
Factory decorative scroll appears as a panel on the grip-frame butt. Rollmarks include "COLT SINGLE ACTION FRONTIER SCOUT .22 L.R." on the right side of the barrel, "1820 – MAINE SESQUICENTENNIAL – 1970" on the left side, and "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG.
CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." on the barrel top, tying the revolver directly to the commemorative theme.
The set includes Colt’s wood presentation case with purple lining and Maine graphics, along with the gold-tone lobster figure issued for this commemorative.
