Designed by John M. Browning, the Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless delivers classic single-action, blowback operation in a compact package. This Type IV variant is chambered in .380 ACP and uses a single-stack 7-round magazine for a 7+1 capacity. The internal, concealed hammer preserves the smooth profile that made these pistols popular for discreet carry in their era.
Construction is all carbon steel with a blued finish on the frame and slide. The 3.75 inch barrel uses an integral bushing, and the slide wears vertical rear serrations. Dimensions are compact and well-balanced, with an overall length of approximately 6.75 inches, height around 4.5–4.6 inches, and weight of about 24 ounces.
Controls are straightforward and period correct, including a heel magazine release and a comprehensive safety suite: thumb safety, grip safety, and a magazine disconnect. Sighting is provided by fixed iron sights with a half-moon front blade and a fixed U-notch rear.
Original-style details and markings are present, including checkered walnut grips with Colt medallions and the right-slide legend "COLT AUTOMATIC CALIBRE .380 HAMMERLESS." Patent dates (Apr. 20, 1897; Dec. 22, 1903) and the Colt address are on the slide. Additional inspection letters include a "K" on the right front of the frame/dust cover and a "W" ahead of the trigger guard on the left side.
