The 181-Series, Pre-Ranch configuration delivers the original Mini-14 layout with a wing-protected fixed rear aperture and a banded front sight. As a Pre-Ranch receiver, it does not have integral scope bases, reflecting the early production format. The right-side charging handle and rotating-bolt, short-stroke gas piston action provide the classic handling that defines the platform.
Produced in 1978, the 181-series serial range places this rifle well before the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban. It is designated pre-ban and is fitted with a birdcage-style flash suppressor. The banded front sight remains without a bayonet lug, and this is not the GB front-sight/lug assembly.
The rifle retains a durable blued finish over its receiver and barrel, paired with a hardwood stock featuring a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, sling swivels, and a curved steel buttplate. A black polymer ventilated upper handguard completes the classic Mini-14 profile. Length of pull measures 12.5 in for a compact, traditional fit.
It comes with two Ruger factory steel magazines: 20-round and 5-round. One magazine is marked "RESTRICTED LAW ENFORCEMENT/GOVERNMENT USE ONLY." The chambering is .223 Rem, and capacity is listed at 20+1. Made in the USA, this example presents as a clean, well-kept 181-Series Mini-14 with desirable early features and useful extras.
