The M&P FPC uses a horizontal side-folding mechanism that brings the overall length down to approximately 16.375 in when folded and about 30.375 in when unfolded. The charging slide at the rear locks the carbine in the folded position, and the design keeps the top Picatinny rail in place so the rail remains undisturbed.
Its 16.25 in 4140 steel barrel features a black-oxide finish, 1/2x28 threads, and a 1:10 in twist. The threaded muzzle supports common 9mm accessories, and the durable barrel steel and finish are paired for longevity and ease of maintenance.
An aluminum receiver with a hard-coat anodized finish anchors a polymer handguard that includes M-LOK slots, a full-length top Picatinny rail, and an underside rail segment. The polymer stock has a fixed cheekpiece and in-stock magazine storage, with a 14.5 in length of pull for a stable shoulder weld.
The action is simple blowback and semi-automatic with a flat-faced, single-action trigger. Controls include the rear charging slide that also acts as the folded retainer. It accepts S&W M&P double-stack 9mm full-size and compact magazines. Weight is about 5.03 lb, and there are no iron sights installed from the factory.
