The M&P-15 Sport III delivers a modern AR-15 configuration with a 16.25 in Armornite-treated 4140 steel barrel, 5R rifling, and a mid-length gas system. A 15 in free-float aluminum M-LOK handguard with a full-length Picatinny top rail, forged aluminum receivers, and a 6-position adjustable stock round out a feature set that is current, practical, and made in the United States. This example is a recent Sport III release, mfg part number 13807, and includes a 30-round PMAG plus useful M-LOK accessories and a Magpul MS1 Lite sling.

The Sport III configuration centers on a 16.25 in 4140 steel barrel finished in Armornite and cut with 5R rifling and a 1:8 twist to stabilize a broad range of 5.56 NATO loads. The barrel is threaded and fitted with an A2-pattern birdcage flash hider, and the rifle uses a mid-length gas system with a direct-impingement action.
The aluminum upper is a flat-top with T-marked top-rail segments (T2-T12), forward assist, dust cover, and case deflector. The forged aluminum lower includes an integral trigger guard, a manual safety with SAFE/FIRE legend (right side), and a chromed firing pin noted in Smith & Wesson’s Sport III launch materials.
A 15 in free-float aluminum M-LOK handguard provides M-LOK slots at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock with a full-length Picatinny top rail for mounting accessories. This rifle comes with a short M-LOK vertical foregrip and an M-LOK QD sling swivel socket already installed.
Furniture includes a 6-position adjustable polymer stock and an A2-style polymer pistol grip. The rifle is finished in black with anodized aluminum receivers, is marked “SMITH & WESSON MARYVILLE, TN MADE IN U.S.A.” on the receiver, and “MODEL M&P-15” with the S&W logo on the magwell.
