This Marlin Model 336 is a USA-made .30-30 lever-action rifle from 1981 with a Micro-Groove barrel and a JM stamp. It features a solid-top, flat-topped, side-eject receiver with a side loading gate, plus an under-barrel tubular magazine. This example also includes practical user-installed upgrades: a screw-attached receiver-top optics rail/base and a knurled hammer spur extension.

Marked on the barrel as “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.”, this rifle is also stamped “MICRO-GROOVE BARREL”, “MOD. 336”, and “CAL. 30-30 WIN.”.
The JM stamp is present, and the serial number is in the 190136xx range.
The 20" barrel pairs with a 6-round tubular magazine, and the fore-end is retained by a barrel band. The receiver is blued steel, matching the blued finish throughout.
Sighting is handled by open sights, including a barrel-mounted open rear sight with a stepped elevator and a buckhorn-style profile. A receiver-top optics rail/base is already installed for those who prefer to set the rifle up with a mounted sighting system.
Furniture is two-piece, uncheckered wood with a pistol-grip stock. The buttplate/pad includes a light-colored spacer, and the rifle is fitted with sling swivel studs at the front and rear. Length of pull is listed at 13.5, and there is no cross-bolt safety visible.
