This Marlin Glenfield Mod. 40 is a U.S.-made semi-automatic blowback .22 LR rifle with a 22" barrel and an under-barrel tubular magazine. It features a blued/black finish, a wood stock and forend with checkered panels, and decorative scroll/filigree-style engraving on both sides of the receiver flats. The barrel is marked "GLENFIELD MOD. 40" and "THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO." with the North Haven, Connecticut address, along with ".22 L.R.
ONLY" caliber markings.
Condition
Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.
Bore Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Bore Rifling: Excellent Rifling - Sharp lands and grooves.

The Glenfield Mod. 40 is built around a semi-automatic blowback action chambered in .22 LR and uses an under-barrel tubular magazine with a knurled magazine-tube end cap/knob and a removable inner-tube style. Capacity is listed at 15 rounds.
This rifle is fitted with a wood forend and wood stock with checkered panels, along with a black buttplate secured by two screws. Length of pull is 13.5.
On the receiver, decorative scrollwork is present, with filigree-style engraving visible on both receiver flats. The front sight assembly is present at the muzzle end.
The receiver is set up with a scope mount and includes a mounted 4x15 scope held in two rings. A serial number is visible on the receiver, and a published Marlin serial dating method is referenced in the notes as potentially indicating 1978 manufacture if applicable to this rifle.
