The 184-Series Mini-14 shown here bears the Southport, Conn. rollmark and was manufactured in 1985, predating the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban. It has an 18.5 inch barrel with a plain muzzle and a non-Ranch receiver that does not have integral scope bases. The metalwork presents a stainless tone throughout.
Its operating system is Ruger’s gas-operated, short-stroke fixed piston with a rotating bolt, paired with a right-side operating rod charging handle. The rifle uses detachable box magazines and is rated for a 30+1 capacity, with two 30-round magazines included.
Furniture includes a side-folding metal stock and a black checkered synthetic pistol grip for a compact, durable configuration. A ventilated upper handguard aids cooling. Sling loops are installed at the front and rear.
Sight regulation is handled by iron sights consisting of a wing-protected front blade and a receiver-mounted adjustable aperture rear. This setup suits the rifle’s practical, irons-forward design of the 1980s era.
Made in the United States, this 184-Series Mini-14 combines pre-ban provenance with a sought-after folding-stock configuration and stainless-tone finish, offering a clean example of the model’s mid-1980s production.
