The Mosquito uses a straight blowback system with a DA/SA, external-hammer trigger, pairing a polymer frame with an aluminum-zinc alloy slide and a fixed 3.9-inch steel barrel. This configuration delivers simple operation with a consistent barrel position relative to the sights.
Controls are positioned on the left side and include a slide-mounted manual safety, slide stop, decocking lever, and takedown lever. Safety features are comprehensive, with a manual safety, decocker, magazine disconnect, and an integral key-operated safety lock.
Sighting is clear and bright via 3-dot yellow sights. The rear is windage-adjustable, and the front blade is interchangeable to tailor point of impact. Rear slide serrations aid manipulation.
Designed as a 90%-scale analogue of the SIG P226, the Mosquito was introduced circa 2003 and later discontinued by SIG; production continued as the GSG FireFly.
