The Kel-Tec PLR-16 is a compact, gas-piston 5.56 NATO pistol built around a lightweight polymer receiver and a 9.2-inch threaded steel barrel. It accepts standard AR-15/M16 STANAG magazines, runs without an AR-style buffer tube, and includes an integral full-length MIL-STD-1913 top rail with iron sights. This example comes with two magazines and a thread protector.

The PLR-16 uses a long-stroke gas piston with a rotating bolt, derived from the SU-16 rifle system. This design allows operation without an AR-style buffer tube, keeping the pistol compact while maintaining reliable cycling with 5.56mm NATO ammunition.
Its 9.2-inch steel barrel is threaded 1/2x28 TPI and includes a thread protector. The setup supports common 5.56/.223 muzzle devices that share the thread pattern, offering flexibility for muzzle configuration.
The receiver and frame are made from glass-reinforced Zytel polymer, keeping weight to about 3.4 lb unloaded. A textured polymer pistol grip with Kel-Tec’s square pattern provides a secure hold, and a cross-bolt manual safety offers straightforward operation.
Iron sights are included, with an A2-style front post on the gas block and a windage-adjustable rear sight mounted on the integral full-length MIL-STD-1913 top rail. A left-side charging handle and a sling loop under the front sight/gas block add to the pistol’s practical handling. Overall length is approximately 18.5 inches.
