The SD40 follows the original SD Series configuration with a black Melonite/Armornite slide over a black polymer frame. The 4-inch stainless steel barrel and striker-fired action pair with Smith & Wesson’s Self Defense Trigger (SDT), a hinged, double-action style trigger designed for consistent pulls.
The slide features front and rear angled serrations for confident manipulation, an external extractor, and a matte black finish. Dovetailed 3-dot iron sights include a drift-adjustable rear notch and a front post with a single dot for a clear, familiar sight picture.
An integral 3-slot accessory rail is molded into the full-size polymer frame to accommodate compatible lights or lasers. The molded textured grip panels with S&W medallions provide a secure, consistent hold.
This SD40 is made in the United States and is capable of firing with the magazine removed (no magazine disconnect). Capacity is 14+1 in .40 S&W, and this example includes both standard-capacity and reduced-capacity magazines for flexibility.
