Part of Colt’s 2nd Generation C-Series, this commemorative is patterned on the classic 1851 Navy and built as a single-action, cap-and-ball percussion revolver in .36 caliber. It carries the six-shot configuration with a 7.5 inch octagonal barrel.

The barrel top reads "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY," while the left barrel flat is inscribed "ULYSSES S. GRANT COMMEMORATIVE - NINETEEN SEVENTY ONE." The cylinder is roll-engraved with the naval battle scene and Ormsby credit, reflecting period-correct embellishment.

Finish and appointments include a high-polish blued barrel and cylinder, a color case-hardened steel frame, and a bright-finished trigger guard and backstrap. The revolver wears a one-piece smooth hardwood grip.

Sighting is traditional with a brass pin front and hammer notch rear. The gun was assembled and finished in the U.S. as part of the commemorative program, and it follows the C-Series format with an "USG" commemorative serial suffix and matching numbers on major components.
