This Second Generation Colt is a faithful factory-made reproduction of the Model 1848 Dragoon Third Model. It was manufactured in 1974 within the early 1974 serial block and reflects the design and visual details associated with late U.S. Dragoon revolvers.
The revolver features a 7.5-inch octagon-to-round barrel secured by a wedge-retained assembly and a single-action percussion mechanism. It is chambered in .44 caliber with a six-shot cylinder, and uses fixed sights consisting of a bright-metal blade front and a hammer-notch rear.
Third Model identifiers are present, including the round/oval trigger guard and the horizontal loading-lever latch. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the "Ranger and Indian" scene and the "MODEL U.S.M.R." panel, a signature element of Dragoon revolvers.
The finish is blued and case-colored, with a case-colored frame/receiver and blued cylinder. A brass grip frame (trigger guard and backstrap) and a one-piece walnut grip complete the period-correct configuration. The set is complemented by a Colt presentation case and period-style accessories.
