This Beretta Mod. 62 (BM62) is a pre-ban, Italian-made .308 Win semi-automatic rifle imported by Berben Corp. of New York. Built on the M1 Garand system and tied to the BM59 program, it accepts BM59-pattern detachable magazines and features a 19-inch barrel, parkerized metal, and full-length hardwood furniture. The Italian proof date code AF confirms 1980 manufacture, and limited U.S.

import numbers contribute to its desirability among collectors.

    What’s Included

    • Beretta Mod. 62 .308 Win semi-automatic rifle
    • Two 20-round BM59-pattern steel magazines
    • Green web sling (attached)

The Mod. 62 is the civilian semi-automatic derivative associated with Beretta’s BM59 program, built on the proven M1 Garand operating system. It uses a gas-operated, rotating-bolt action and a 19-inch steel barrel. The rifle wears a parkerized finish over steel with a full-length hardwood stock and matching wood upper handguard.

This configuration retains a plain, unported muzzle extension and omits a bayonet lug and grenade sight. It is compatible with BM59-pattern detachable magazines, offering a 20+1 capacity. The stock has a semi-pistol grip, a rubber recoil pad, and a left-side rear sling loop. Iron sights include a bladed front post with protective ears and an M1-type aperture rear with windage and elevation drums. Length of pull is 13 inches.

Factory and import markings are present and legible: the receiver is marked "MOD. 62. 308 W BERBEN CORP. N.Y. N.Y." with small parts marked "P.B.

BM59." The Italian proof date code AF indicates 1980 manufacture; the date code reads "AF."

This example is a Berben Corp. New York import from the early 1980s prior to the 1989 import ban. U.S. import numbers were limited, commonly cited around two thousand, which adds to the rifle’s scarcity and collector interest. Made in Italy, this pre-ban Mod.

62 represents a notable intersection of BM59 lineage, M1-based engineering, and documented Beretta import history.
