The FX-9 uses a straight blowback, semi-automatic action paired with an 8-inch steel barrel that is salt-bath nitride treated for durability. The barrel is threaded 1/2x28 and comes with a thread protector, offering flexibility for muzzle device use. A 1:10 twist supports common 9mm loads.
Receivers are billet aluminum with a Type III hard-anodized finish in black. Steel components are nitride treated. The right-side ejection port is cleanly executed with no forward assist or dust cover. Selector markings are "S/F," and controls follow the AR layout for intuitive operation.
The free-float aluminum handguard features M-LOK slots and a full-length Picatinny top rail that is T-marked T2–T14. The handguard is marked "MADE IN U.S.A." and "FREEDOM ORDNANCE." Additional roll marks include "FREEDOM ORDNANCE – CHANDLER, IN – MODEL: FX-9 – CAL: MULTI" and "FX-9" on the upper receiver.
Ergonomics include a Shockwave Blade brace that sets overall length to approximately 23.0 to 25.25 inches, and a Magpul pistol grip for a secure hold. The ambidextrous charging handle has a "FREEDOM" marked latch. Unloaded weight is about 5 lb 1.4 oz. The platform feeds from Glock-pattern double-stack magazines and is stated at a 31+1 capacity.
