The stamped-steel, riveted receiver has magazine-well dimples and a ribbed top cover, with factory-style markings: "SOVIET ARMS - WEST COLUMBIA, SC - CALIBER: 5.56x45mm - MODEL: AK-101." Selector positions on the right side are marked in Cyrillic "AV / OD." A small triangular logo appears above the assembly number, and the bolt carrier and receiver trunnion area show a matching assembly number 0014.
The rifle uses a gas-operated long-stroke piston with a rotating bolt, and the gas piston is integral with the bolt carrier. It features a 16.3-inch barrel with a 1:7 twist. The muzzle is threaded and fitted with a multi-slot flash hider retained by the front sight base detent plunger. A 90-degree gas block and standard AK gas tube complete the front-end layout.
Furniture includes wood upper and lower handguards and a matching red-stained wood pistol grip. The left-side folding, skeletonized metal stock uses a hinged rear trunnion with a stock latch built into the receiver, and provides a 12.25-inch length of pull. Iron sights consist of a hoodless front sight post and a tangent rear sight with elevation graduations.
Chambered in 5.56mm NATO, this AK-101 pattern rifle is configured for modern 5.56x45mm magazines and ships with one 45-round and one 30-round AC-Unity polymer magazine. The cleaning-rod channel is present under the barrel; a rod is not installed.
