The bottom barrel is 20 gauge with 2 3/4 in or 3 in chambering and a fixed full choke. Capacity is two rounds, one per barrel. The action is break-open, and the opening release is positioned at the front of the trigger guard. A hammer-mounted selector controls which barrel fires.
Sighting is via iron sights: a square-post front blade and an adjustable rear leaf with a stepped elevator. The barrel warning reads "DO NOT FIRE SHOTGUN BARREL WITH SCOPE ATTACHED."
The barrels are blued, and the steel receiver is case-colored. Furniture includes a hardwood stock with a pistol-grip profile and an uncheckered finish, plus a long beavertail hardwood forearm. The buttplate is ribbed black hard rubber/plastic.
Markings include "Savage Arms, Westfield, Mass. U.S.A." and "Model 24, Series S." This Series S configuration is the classic over/under layout with the .22 LR on top and the 20 gauge on the bottom.
