The Scout Squad configuration centers on an 18-inch carbon steel barrel with a factory muzzle brake, offering controlled recoil in a shorter overall length. The barrel uses a 6-groove profile with a 1:11 RH twist suited to .308 Win loads, and it feeds from a detachable 10-round M14/M1A-pattern magazine.
Its gas-operated, short-stroke piston system with a rotating bolt delivers the proven M14-style action. The receiver is carbon steel with a black finish, and the heel is marked "US RIFLE M1A SPRINGFIELD ARMORY." An additional internal marking "7790186-SA F00006" is present under the op-rod/bolt raceway.
Sight regulation is precise and repeatable with a wing-protected National Match 0.062 inch front blade and an M14-type aperture rear sight featuring a 0.0690 inch aperture with MOA-adjustable windage and elevation. A handguard-mounted Picatinny scout rail provides a forward mounting surface if desired.
The two-stage, match-tuned trigger breaks at approximately 5.0 lb, aiding consistent shot control.
