The ACR uses a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston system with a rotating bolt, paired with a non-reciprocating forward charging handle for smooth operation. Controls are ambidextrous, including the manual safety and paddle-style magazine release, supporting both right- and left-handed use.
Its 16.5 inch quick-change barrel is retained by a right-front knob/axle, and is marked "B-MP 5.56 NATO 1/9" for the chambering and twist rate. A three-chamber side-ported brake/compensator is installed at the muzzle to help manage movement during firing.
The rifle features a continuous MIL-STD-1913 top rail with no sights installed, and a polymer handguard with Picatinny rail sections at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock for accessories. UTG rail panels are installed on the rails.
Construction pairs an aluminum upper with a polymer lower and furniture. The stock is polymer, right-side folding, and telescoping with adjustable length of pull. Receiver markings include "B.F.I. ILION, N.Y., U.S.A." and model "BACR" with "CALIBER: MULTI," while the ejection-port cover is marked "MULTI-CAL."
