The Cougar 8040 F uses a short-recoil, rotating-barrel locking system paired with a DA/SA trigger and an external spurred hammer. Its aluminum-alloy frame keeps the pistol robust while maintaining a compact footprint for carry or duty use.
The 3.62 in cold-hammer-forged barrel has 6-groove right-hand rifling, and the bore and rifling are in excellent condition. Sighting is straightforward with fixed 3-dot sights: a front blade with a white dot and a dovetailed rear with white dots, with an approximate 132 mm sight radius.
Controls include an ambidextrous slide-mounted safety/decocker and an automatic firing pin block. Per the left slide safety text, the pistol will fire without the magazine inserted. The slide has rear serrations, and the grip panels are checkered black polymer for confident handling.
Capacity is 11+1 rounds of .40 S&W, and this pistol comes with four 11-round steel double-stack magazines. Weight is approximately 32.4 oz, and overall dimensions are about 180/140/38 mm (L/H/W), delivering a compact size with solid in-hand stability.
