The MCX architecture uses a short-stroke gas piston with dual captive recoil springs housed in the upper, eliminating the need for a buffer tube and allowing true side-folding operation. A minimalist aluminum stock folds via a push-button hinge and includes a rubber buttpad; length of pull is 12.75 in.
The 16 in barrel is carbon steel, cold hammer forged, and threaded 1/2x28. It ships with a factory three-prong flash hider and a 1:7 twist. A two-position gas regulator (normal/suppressed) and the quick-change barrel system are integral to the design.
Controls are fully ambidextrous, including the magazine release and safety selector, with a right-side bolt catch/release. The rifle includes a flat-faced, match style trigger and accepts most AR-15 triggers. A forward assist and ejection-port cover are present.
The free-float M-LOK aluminum handguard mates to a monolithic 1913 Picatinny top rail that runs continuously across the receiver and handguard. The aluminum receiver carries a coyote brown anodized finish and is marked "SIG MCX MULTI-CALIBER." Capacity is 30+1, and the rifle is a recent U.S.-made release.
