Built on the SKS platform, this Type 56 operates via a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston system with a tilting bolt. It is chambered in 7.62x39 and fitted with a 20.5-inch barrel. The receiver is milled steel with a blued/parkerized finish, while the bolt and bolt carrier remain in-the-white.
The rifle retains its integral fixed 10-round magazine with a hinged floorplate. The muzzle is plain and unthreaded. A bayonet lug is present, though no bayonet is installed.
Sighting is classic SKS: a hooded post front and a tangent rear sight graduated from 100 to 1000 meters. The hardwood stock is oil-finished and includes side sling swivels and a stock crossbolt. Ventilated wooden upper and lower handguards complete the furniture set. Length of pull measures 12.7 inches.
Markings include a triangular arsenal cartouche and the Chinese Type 56 designation "五六式." Import stamping reads "SKS 7.62x39 MADE IN CHINA BY NORINCO POLY USA ATL GA." Matching partial serials were observed on multiple components, supporting configuration consistency.
