The Springfield Armory Hellion is a modern 5.56mm NATO bullpup with a short-stroke gas piston system, a cold hammer forged CMV steel barrel, and fully ambidextrous controls. This example adds tool-free reversible ejection, a full-length 1913 Picatinny top rail with numbered slots, and integrated spring-loaded flip-up sights. Manufactured by HS Produkt in Croatia and imported by Springfield Armory, the Hellion was named NRA American Rifleman 2023 Tactical Gun of the Year. This Hellion retains the compact bullpup layout while delivering a 16 inch CMV steel barrel that is cold hammer forged and Melonite treated for durability. The barrel is threaded 1/2x28 and fitted with a pronged flash hider, and a 1:7 twist supports a wide range of 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem projectiles.
Controls are fully ambidextrous, including the two-position safety, magazine release, and bolt release. The non-reciprocating charging handle is ambidextrous and positioned in the upper carry channel. Ejection is reversible left or right without tools, and the adjustable gas regulator provides N (normal) and S (suppressed) settings.
The top of the rifle features a full-length 1913 Picatinny rail with numbered slots. Integrated, spring-loaded flip-up sights nest into the rail when stowed; the front sight is elevation adjustable and the rear offers a windage adjustable 5-position aperture. The polymer handguard provides M-LOK slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock for accessory mounting.
The five-position adjustable stock includes a spring-loaded cheek riser, and the rifle uses a BCMGUNFIGHTER Mod 3 pistol grip for a familiar feel. Overall length is 28.25–29.75 inches with an 18 inch length of pull, and the rifle weighs 8.0 lb. The finish is black.
This model accepts AR-pattern magazines and is marked with the Hellion name and trident emblem on the receiver, along with the Springfield Armory crest. Import and proof markings include "HS PRODUCT MADE IN CROATIA."
