Receiver ring markings "42" over "1940" identify production at Mauser-Werke A.G., Oberndorf, during the early WWII period. German eagle/WaA655 inspection stamps further confirm Oberndorf acceptance from the 1939–41 timeframe. The left receiver wall is correctly marked "Mod.98."
The rifle retains its early-war configuration with milled barrel bands, a bayonet lug, and a cleaning rod. It features the classic bent bolt handle and controlled-round-feed Mauser 98 action with a three-position wing safety. An internal 5-round magazine feeds via stripper clips.
The laminated hardwood stock includes the correct side sling slot and takedown disk, paired with a full-length handguard. Sights are the standard iron set: a tangent rear sight graduated to 2000 meters and an inverted V front sight, with no hood observed.
Included is a WWI-era Mauser Oberndorf S98/05 bayonet, spine-dated 1917, along with its steel scabbard. A K98k-style reproduction sling is installed, complementing the rifle’s field-ready configuration and handling.
