The SR-556 Takedown architecture allows rapid barrel removal and caliber swaps while preserving zero, aided by dedicated folding front sights on each barrel assembly. The installed barrel is stamped 5.56 NATO with a 1:8 twist, and the included spare barrel is stamped .300 BLK with a 1:7 twist. Both are cold-hammer-forged and chrome-lined.
Ruger's short-stroke, two-stage piston system pairs with a four-position gas regulator (0–3) to tune the rifle to ammunition and conditions. The system runs on a forged aluminum receiver set with a hard-coat anodized finish, and a bright/chrome bolt carrier marked with the Ruger eagle.
The free-float aluminum handguard features a full-length T-marked Picatinny top rail, slotted sides, and a short 6 o'clock rail segment. Folding iron sights include a gas-block-mounted front and a rear sight on the receiver rail. The muzzle is threaded and fitted with a flash suppressor.
Ergonomics include a Magpul adjustable carbine stock and Magpul pistol grip, with a standard manual safety selector. The lower receiver is marked "RUGER MAYODAN, NC USA," and the rifle accepts STANAG magazines with a stated capacity of 30+1.
